Sea Turtle Season at Ft. Myers Beach

It's Sea Turtle Season Each year, sea turtle season runs May 1 through October 31 at Fort Myers Beach.  We're fortunate that every year, more and more sea turtles nest right on our beautiful beach, near Mango Street Inn Bed & Breakfast . It is truly a  remarkable sight when you see them.  As with all of our beautiful island creatures, it's important to understand the rituals and challenges of the sea turtle in order to protect them and ensure the hatchlings survive. Fortunately, the numbers are growing each year. In 2015, Fort Myers Beach had 73 nests total, but last year that number increased to 92. We hope to see even more of an increase this year. Some experts expect that 2017 may be a “generational year.”  Recently, the Island Sand (our local newspaper) interviewed Eve Haverfield. The Beautiful Birds of Ft. Myers Beach!

If you are a big bird watcher, then the best bed and breakfast in Fort Myers Beach, Mango Street Inn , is the place to be! There are many different types of beautiful birds that can be spotted on the shores around Fort Myers Beach. While there are several birds, we'd like to highlight some of our favorites. For any of you out there that aren't very familiar with bird terminology, when we refer to plumage, we are describing their feathers. Also, we are going to take a look at three different categories of birds that may be spotted around our great bed and breakfast in Fort Myers Beach , the shore birds, wading birds, and common birds. Shore Birds Sanderling The Sanderling has short black legs that blur as they scurry across the beach. The 22nd Annual “Taste of the Beach” Festival - Seafood, Live Music, and More!

                                                              Mango Street Inn is excited to announce the 22nd Annual Taste of the Beach Festival on Fort Myers Beach is just a few days away! The festival is Sunday, May 7, 2017 on Old San Carlos Blvd. just down the street from Times Square. Gates open at 11 a.m. and food will be served until it runs out or at 4 p.m. Tickets will be available on site. Admission is $5 for adults and children 12 and over. Children under 12 are free. Food tickets will be $1 each with a $5 average food serving price. Restaurants will offer samples of signature dishes available for purchase and compete for the top Taste of the Beach Award honors. There are many restaurants that will compete and all are members of the Greater Fort Myers Beach Area Chamber of Commerce.
